Diverting 50% of our waste from being buried at the landfill can’t happen over night. We’ve developed some options for the short, medium and long term. These options follow the Waste Hierarchy of: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover and Residuals.

Why prepare a Garbage and Recycling Master Plan?

Winnipeg’s existing Garbage Master Plan was last reviewed in 2001. After implementing automated garbage cart collection in the northwest area of Winnipeg, City Council requested we prepare a full garbage and recycling plan before recommending any more program changes.
